There are other things you can do, like developing your people.
Like a lot of employers won't develop their people because they might say, oh, my average employee is only here for three and a half years.
So why should I spend money on developing them?
Because they're just going to go and take that to the next employer.
Well, if every business in New Zealand said that, we'd have no one being developed.
So I think that's, to me, that's one example about how you can impact the community.
If I think about
Things like the working from home phenomena, which became a big thing during COVID.
Some companies were already doing that for all the good reasons for their employees, let alone carbon emissions and clogged motorways and all that stuff.
So I think business leaders should think more about what can we do to help with community and social outcomes rather than simply working.
Because the easiest thing businesses can do is write a check.
No disrespect to the people who fund you.
I think that's awesome.
Yeah.
I'm not saying don't do that.
Keep writing those checks.
Yeah, so that helps.
But actually, could they be doing something more?
How could a company like Zed, in addition to the great funding they give you, what else do the people at Zed take for granted that would be worth a bomb to you?
And it's like at Zed we used to do what was called skilled volunteering, where every year each employee was allowed to, I think it was two days, that they could go and help somebody.
