A lot of these issues, they're generational, right?
Yes.
So you've got to have cross-party support to have a long-term view of it.

But I don't understand why that's so hard to get for something like child poverty.
Yes.
Well, I think if we had only a business guy, if you said that's a strategic risk and it fits somewhere in some map or grid that you have, you deal with it.
If it doesn't sit there, you wouldn't deal with it.
So I think that would be part of the prioritisation that I speak about is if we could say, right, childhood poverty or this aspect of it is strategic.
and therefore we are going to spend money today that we could spend on something else to satisfy a need today, but it's going to solve a bigger need or a growing need or a bigger risk down the track, like education for children under five, the hundreds of thousands of children in poverty.
I've got a good friend of mine who's a primary school teacher at a very low decile school, and I had dinner with her on Saturday evening, and the story she tells is,
are both horrifying at one level, but equally systemic.
It's not that the parents want to be bad parents necessarily, that the way they grew up or something about their environment means it's tough for them to be parents and therefore the children are on the back foot to begin with.
So yeah, I think things like child poverty is a massive strategic issue for the country.
to any business out there, entrepreneur, founder, small business leader that's doing it tough right now, any advice you can give them around getting through these tough times?
Yeah, I'd say the most important thing is to look after yourself.
Now, that doesn't solve the business problem, but if you're tired, if you're lower morale, if you don't feel energy, you're not going to bring your best self to solving that problem.
So a little bit like the mask and the plane, get your own one on first.
So I think that's what I did and have done repeatedly, is you've got to get yourself in the best position possible to deal with the shit that's turning up every day.
