Certainly how I recall the conversation.
He said, I want to stop you there.
He said, you've got it wrong.
He said, what we've got to do is prioritize and then plan until we run out of resources.
And I thought, yeah, that's a really good way.
That's not a good way.
That is the way I now think about it.
So I'd be saying, actually, what are all the priorities in New Zealand?
Again, given the context, given the investment in strategic industries, how do we prioritize all that?
And then to say to people, now we've run out of money.

I don't want to give an example, but is that particular thing a priority?
Yes, it is, but actually we don't have the funding or the resources for that because we've funded something else.

Yeah, that's right.
Yeah, bowel cancer is important, and I think the data says we should be testing people over the age of 50.
So the priority, I think, in the last budget, I think they've now taken it down to 56.
I think that's a good example of prioritisation to say, yeah, the problem is one that's a priority down to the age of 50, but right now we'd run out of resources at the age of 56.
Surely child poverty, I mean, surely you'd be able to get some cross-party support on this thing, eh?
