I think I need to book in some time with you.
But let's just straight off the bat, how can I be better?
What can I do which will in turn help BBM to be better and help more people or be even more sustainable?
Yeah, so I think to me, the difference between management and leadership, right?
So management is about reducing volatility, increasing predictability, managing risk.
And most of us are really good at management.
That's why you have meetings, you have spreadsheets, you have a diary.
That's like the management side of things.
I think because we have so much focus on management, we don't think enough about leadership, which is everything that management is.
So leadership is about generating futures, finding ways to close gaps that you don't really know how to do.
It's clearly the people side of things.
So I'd say spend as much time on leadership as you do on management.
And certainly the work I do now is people get stuck with stuff.
And when they say, I'm not sure whether I need you or not, Mike, I go, okay, well, here's the thing.
If you executed 20% better, would all your problems be solved?
They go, no.
I say, great, then work with me.
If working 20% better solves all the problems, I have nothing to offer because that's just a matter of more meetings, more KPIs, more plans, more prioritization.
But usually when we get stressed or pressured, we do more of the stuff that actually doesn't help.
And we feel at one level good because we're working so much harder, but we feel bad because the results aren't improving.
