It really comes down to a system, a computer software system that is used by these utilities.
Whoever is the perpetrator, whoever's the hacker, found the back door and was able to access these systems covertly and then do the work they were doing.
In this case, they were changing passwords.
They were turning off alarms.
Nobody actually turned off the water or turned off the sewer systems.
It was much more kind of like malicious mischief, if anything.
In some cases, there was nothing that was actually done.
It was just that the utility found the intruder and then realized they had been hacked.
Interesting.
Just almost like they were there but not doing anything.
So with that in mind, do we have any idea about who's responsible for this?
What these bad actors would be hoping to accomplish with a hack like this?
We do have an idea.
So law enforcement and intelligence officials are talking to us and they believe that this is likely Iran or some proxy group affiliated with Iran or doing the bidding on behalf of the Iranian government as a result of obviously the hostilities right now going on between the United States and Iran.
That's the belief.
President Trump, when this first happened, and as you said in the intro, you know, this whole thing developed or exploded because of Minnesota.
The governor is Tim Walz, who ran as the vice presidential candidate with Kamala Harris against Trump in 2024.
Trump has really seemed to relish going after Walz since winning the election.
So Trump is blaming Minnesota officials, Walz.
Can you rule out that Iran is behind that cyber attack?
