Yeah, I didn't know this, but Canadians are actually the biggest slice of Las Vegas's international visitor market.
But given the recent tensions between the U.S.
and Canada, with President Trump leveling new tariffs on that country and even saying at one point that it should be America's 51st state...
Canadian tourism to Vegas has fallen about 17%.
Even the mayor of Las Vegas, Shelley Berkeley, said that the city is working to win Canadian visitors back because they make up such an important part of the tourism economy.
Now, President Trump was in Las Vegas earlier this year touting his administration's no taxes on tips policy, which he's pitched as a huge win, especially for workers who rely on tips so heavily.
The Vegas residents that Juhi spoke to by and large agree with the president.
But there's a catch.
A lot of them said that they like the idea and theory of eliminating taxes on tips.
But because tourism has slowed and tip income has fallen, they say the tax break doesn't make up for the money that they're no longer earning.
In other words, it's not that helpful to get a tax break on tips if you aren't getting tips in the first place.
If what happens in Vegas does indeed stay in Vegas, something has to happen first.
And come this November, something will, a governor's election.
Democrats are seeing a huge opening in the Nevada gubernatorial race.
This is one of the key battleground seats that Democrats are hoping to flip.
Democrat Aaron Ford, the state's attorney general, has made these economic struggles a key part of his campaign.
His Republican opponent, incumbent Governor Joe Lombardo, told ABC that while the state isn't immune to larger economic pressures, Nevada is seeing some of the strongest job growth in the country.
and that Vegas still plays host to major events that drive tourism, everything from Formula One races to WNBA games, even the Super Bowl a few years ago.
So this race is really shaping up as a debate over whether Nevadans believe the state's economy is improving or whether the financial pressures that many of the workers I spoke with outweigh those positive indicators.
In the meantime, you can bet that Las Vegas residents will be hoping for a little less conversation and a little more action.
