Now, there will be guarantees.
There will be cap consequences that will tie a team to a deal when it otherwise would maybe want to move on.
But the player can never tear it up.
The player can never say, I've outperformed the contract.
I am electing to end this deal.
And that's what creates these issues.
The team can get the benefit in the back end of a contract of a below market payment, which is what's happening.
$20 million this year, $19.5 million next year.
So there aren't many cards that a player can play.
Withholding services, especially during the voluntary offseason program, that's one way.
And asking to be traded is another way.
He's simply trying to get a contract that puts him better in line with where the market currently is.
And we'll find out with John Harbaugh and Joe Shane being brought together, not at the same time, brought in.

And I think Harbaugh is going to watch Shane very carefully, how he handles the negotiations, whether he finds an appropriate solution that the Giants are happy with.
