So this treaty, which was negotiated at the United Nations, was adopted in 2023.
And then following a few months later, it opened for signatures, which means that states, the aim is always to try to get universal ratification of
So states could sign the treaty and ultimately ratify it.
And when 60 countries have ratified the UN treaty, it enters into force.
And that happened on 17th of January this year.
And what it is, the BB&J agreement, it is there to be able to create a legal framework so that you can establish marine protected areas.
But it also has a way to have global modern standard for environmental impact assessment, which you didn't have before, as well as looking at the access and benefit sharing of marine genetic resources.
