I think...
I did a lot of like, I did a lot of self-exploration, and I tried some new things out, like I went and studied at university, and I just went, I did a lot of travelling and having new experiences and meeting people.
And um, I had a, I think I just had a big break from music, and just went in another direction.
And after a couple of years of that, I just started really missing it.
And then I got offered a tour overseas with my favourite artist, Sarah McLachlan.
And I couldn't say no, because she was just my absolute idol at the time.
And I did that, and I just realised as soon as I got up on stage, I was like, oh, this is what I'm meant to do.
Like, this is my...
my lifeblood, like, this is the thing that makes me feel so alive.
And as soon as I started playing again, I was like, oh, I think I'd just forgotten.
I think I'd forgotten how much I loved this, because of all the pressure I was putting on myself.
I think I really want them to land for people.
Yeah, I think I'd be lying if I said I just don't give a shit if people like my songs or not.
Like if people walked out of the venue when I started playing my new songs, I wouldn't care.
Like of course I'd care because so much of it for me is –
connecting I mean the first the first half of it I guess is me expressing myself that's that's a really important part of it because it has this therapeutic benefit for me where I really really feel like it helps me figure out you know tricky emotions and um helps me figure out other
humans and their thought processes, and um, just helps me untangle the world.
And, and so I can be rea- that's a beautiful feeling when I finish a song and I feel like, oh, this really encapsulated this experience.
And I feel like that really, um, smoothed it out for me and made it into this kind of small, tangible thing that I can now hold and understand.
And then the second half of it is now taking that to an audience and seeing if anyone else can relate, you know.
