In speaking of more recent times, in the early 1890s, President Teddy Roosevelt wrote a book called The Wilderness Hunter.
And in that book,
He tells a story of the most blood curdling Bigfoot encounter that you've ever read.
He was hunting along the Idaho Montana border, and he was told a story by a hunting guide, and this was real wilderness at that time, of a
two legged hominid being killing a a campmate of his.
And Roosevelt recounts the story with the most vivid and blood curdling detail, but he describes it as a goblin, because that was the term from his childhood.

So to Teddy Roosevelt, goblin is the word you reach for when you're describing something like that.
Nowadays
People will describe UFO experiences and they'll speak in terms of
tall grays or Nordic figures or reptilians and so forth.
And they're seizing upon language that just belongs to our generation.
An earlier generation might have called them ghosts or poltergeists or banshees or fairies.
Right.
