I mean I think if you're in a situation where a sporting director has maybe built up a particularly great relationship with an agent and they want the manager wants a certain player, so he wants to keep that agent sweet.

So maybe he does a deal on another player that the manager necessarily didn't really want, but brings him in in order to kind of build that relationship and you get a situation where the manager

Manager's getting players in his squad he doesn't really want, that's always a dangerous place to be because that in itself causes friction because the player will clearly work out that the manager doesn't fancy him and then the player will be a problem.

And I don't think you can afford to have that.

Whereas in the flip side of it, if there's a man a player the manager's kind of called for.

and it doesn't work out, then everyone could just be like, Okay, well, fair enough, it didn't work out, we need to sell this player.

I just think that when it comes to setting the overall arching idea

The manager is the one who's doing he has to be at the starting point. 'Cause he's the one who's decided, like, how are we going to go about winning football matches?

Like the whole recruitment point starts from that question and then everything else has to follow on afterwards.
