Uh I definitely have new things to share.
And um the reason I wrote this book is because I spent most of my life doing exactly what society trains you to do when you want to start a business.
I got good grades in school, I went to you know the best school I could get into, the best Ivy League program for small business, majored in entrepreneurship, worked as a venture capitalist.
basically jumped through every single hoop that you're supposed to jump through or society tells you to jump through and found at the end of the day I could write killer business plans but couldn't take the risks that someone needs to take to start a small business.
And it was exceptionally frustrating for me because I'm the daughter of self made immigrants.
And my dad was a merchant marine ships captain and my mom was an artist and we sailed around when I was little and we hit this point where um I was hitting the age that you have to go to school and my dad had to completely reboot, just start all over.
And he moved my family here to America and um took a third of his life savings and invested it in Indian handicrafts, had absolutely no plan, no background with Indian handicrafts.
And just decided, you know what, I'm gonna sell this stuff.
And so we moved here and literally he started going door to door and every single door slammed in his face.
And after about a month, my mom was like, maybe you should go get a job.
And the only job he could get paid half of what he made as a ship's captain.
So he was like, no thanks.
And he went back out there and he decided if no one's gonna buy my stuff, I'm gonna open my own store.
And so uh
Very s this was the business plan, this was the twist.
And so um being new to the country, he had absolutely no credit history.
And even though he had a little bit of savings, no one would give him the time of day.
No landlord would lease him shit.
So uh basically he ended up taking this job that paid not much at all, and in his off hours would drive around and look and scout for locations to open a store.
He was just dead set on doing this.
