Yes, we did get some action this year.
I think every year legislators come in saying they want to address this because, frankly, Kansans care about it.
We do have some high property taxes in the state as compared to other states.
But one of the points that was made over and over in debate is it's so often a local issue.
Local entities and government taxing entities really create –
what the property taxes are going to be and how they're going to go up.
So when we get into the state legislature and start debating these issues, you're really looking at how you're going to affect your cities and counties and school systems.
So one of the proposals that went to the end passed.
One did not, but it was shuffled back to conference committees, so it may still rear its head when they come back in session.
Who knows what will happen there?
The other one very narrowly passed.
And what it did was it offered an opportunity for people in local taxing entities to have more of a say in what they are, in what's happening.
Basically, if their local taxing entity, say the county comes in and says, we are going to raise your property taxes by 10%.
they can get together and 10% of the registered voters can sign a petition.
And if they do that, there's no opportunity to debate that issue.
