The big moment for me.
I saw I was VP of AI at Better Up when they acquired us.
And Chat GPT kind of had the big moment.
LLMs really grew up.
And this was a phenomenal product opportunity and business opportunity for BetterUp because as a company, it's the largest coaching company in the world, relied on on human expert coaches for over a decade.
And now you have an LLM that can not do it the same way, but can provide a lot of that same support and coaching.
The biggest kind of learning and moment for me was when I failed to build the first product well, like when users
didn't like it.
I came at this from uh I have a long, long background in AI and in NLP.
And in that role, because I was an AI expert, and I'll just give you kind of two quick examples that were really kind of like wake up calls for me.
So we built a phenomenally complicated, sophisticated AI system.
Um, it had access to all this grounding in terms of coaching knowledge and data.
We fine-tuned different approaches uh based on actual human expert coaching data that we had.
And so if you just did an eval on this coach, on this AI coach, and you you put it in front of you know ICF certified professional human coach and you asked it, how good at coaching is this model?
And you asked to compare it to ChatGPT, uh our product would win every single time.
Hands down, it was a better coach, objectively, from a human coaching expertise perspective.
It way underperformed a ChatGPT wrapper.
Users didn't like it.
Users didn't come back.
And we tried this other experiment where we took the exact same model, the exact same prompt, the exact same system.
