But what we also find is that often this is not the user leading the AI into different areas.
It's the AI itself just losing track of what the conversation is about.
And so this is like AIs cannot, especially when conversations get really long, they don't have the same conversational attunement that we kind of intuitively have as humans, because we've we've trained to be conversationalists.
And they they lose that grounding.
So a great example from the data is a user was translating finance slides from Chinese to English.
And then turned fifteen or something, they asked this kind of side question that about a career choice.
And then that turned the AI into a life coach all of a sudden.
But it still thought it was also a translator.
And so now every answer that it gave, it gave both the career like life coaching advice, but then it also translated it for the user.
It kind of the the gets to these long conversations, the user might be moving back and forth and the AI loses track of what it's actually supposed to be doing and how it's supposed to be helpful for the user.
And that can mean that conversations just don't each reach us an ending point and the AI stops knowing how it's supposed to be helpful to the user.
This is different from the death spiral.
The death spiral is a case where the user has a clear goal, but they're not kind of going along where the wind is blowing them.
They have something that they want to accomplish and they are trying again and again to get the AI to accomplish it and they're failing.
So you see this a lot in coding tasks.
It's like, hey, it's still not working.
It's still not working.
It still has the bug.
Some users are able to recover from that.
So you have high fluency users, expert users with AI.
