Because we didn't have KiwiSaver then.
You mentioned a four-year window.
So transferring over and not paying tax on it like you would when you draw it out at retirement age in the UK is only applicable for that period of time.

That's in year five, right?
So I've missed my tax-free window, so there'd only be a small amount potentially of tax to pay year five.
But does the amount that you'd get taxed on grow the longer you leave it?
So if I don't get around to it for 15 years, there's going to be more tax to pay.
Because the returns in my fund have not been taxed, whereas if they were sitting in KiwiSaver, they would be taxed.
Okay, so there's a bit to weigh up.
Why would you do that?
