Some people suggest that it's six plus six and, you know, 12% like Australia's doing.
Some say five plus five.
We're obviously doing three and a half plus three and a half at the minute.
Some people are not contributing at all.
So what do you think the magic number is?
Okay, but what about, because obviously one of the features of KiwiSaver at the moment is in your youth-ish, you can use it to buy your first home.
And at the moment, the age that people tend to do that on average is in their mid-30s.
So if you empty it out in your mid-30s, are you going to have to double down for the next 30 years to get back to where you need to be?
What can we learn from other jurisdictions that are doing this well?
I mean, we like to compare ourselves to Australia and their massive super pie.
Are they one that we should be modeling ourselves off?
Do you think we've kind of got a C-grade at the moment?
Yeah, you don't want to get those people caught in the middle that don't have enough and also get counted out of superannuation.
Do you have any thoughts on what the appropriate level is?
Because, I mean, we're having the debate at the moment about what does it mean to be super rich?
You know, who should pay higher taxes?
And I don't know that we've necessarily landed on an answer that would be palatable.
When you say that we haven't fully committed to KiwiSaver, what do you mean?
What would we need to do that would constitute commitment to it as an option?
Yeah, it can be a bitter pill to swallow if you genuinely can't survive in the here and now to actually be told that you must prioritise your retirement.
