You're like, well, what if I can't afford to feed myself until 65?
You mentioned some of the policies already.
I do need to take a quick break.
But when we come back, I'm going to get your thoughts on some of the proposals heading into this election.
We'll be back right after this.
Welcome back to the Prosperity Project.
Shamabil, I mentioned at the start there are a lot of proposals heading into this election about KiwiSaver.
And some of them look to be very positive.
But the first thing it made me think is, oh, people must feel like the government is forever tinkering with KiwiSaver.
They're locked in.
But the government's not locked in to keep doing it the same way.
Would you agree?
Well, we've already talked about your thoughts on compulsion, that that's a good thing.
But one of the things I thought was quite interesting is we did away with the $1,000 kickstart for everyone who started in KiwiSaver some time ago.
But now they're talking about, well, depending on the political party, $1,000 or $1,500 for basically a newborn into KiwiSaver.
Is it a good thing to get a new baby locked into a long-term savings scheme?
Speaking of levelling the playing field, one of the proposals that I was kind of excited to see was contributions during parental leave, because already women's balances in retirement are so much lower than men's for a number of reasons.
But one of them is that they bear the weight of responsibility for raising the kids.
So that's got to be a good thing, right?
I'm pleased you ended that on the positive note because it was something quite depressing there for a second.
