I'm wondering, given that, you know, you're quite open that you own dozens of properties, do you get a little bit of heat from the general public?

Because landlords don't tend to, you know, they're the politician's whipping boy and they're not that popular, right?

Do you get a bit of heat?

Because everyone wants to hear a personal story.

But I guess then people go, who needs 43 houses?

Like, aren't you depriving some other person of the chance to get on the property ladder?

And how do you tend to respond to those criticisms?

Oh, but you charge them for that though, right?

That's a service you're providing.

That's not an altruistic endeavour.

So is that to say you're saying you subsidise people's housing by doing that in the pursuit of a capital gain?

Well, exactly.

That's the criticism.

Okay.

So what is your message to people then who, and you see a lot of headlines like this at the moment, property investment is dead.

What's your response?

And if Labour brings in a capital gains tax, would that be a wrecking ball for the economy like Christopher Luxon suggested it would be?

Or would it be a wrecking ball for your business?

Because you only pay tax if you make a profit.
