And really, from what I've seen in New Zealand, the focus is on children for whom it is more difficult or children who, you know, will get there and just need a kind of a steady teaching of skills and lots of practice.
there's not a focus on children who get there and learn the light green area in the continuum.
People go and look at the ladder of reading and writing.
The light green, they're going to move forward no matter really what instruction they get.
But they could be delayed if they're being held back to get something, a child for whom it is more difficult needs.
And then...
The advanced students are really not on the radar, and it's really concerning because these children deserve to have their needs met just like any other child.
And so I really encourageβmy message to New Zealanders this week isβ
Be aware of the full range of needs and we need to teach accordingly.
We need to support educators and administrators need to be aware of this.
We need to support educators in setting up their classrooms and working together.
with different classrooms combining.
It's called flexible grouping.
You're grouping children in different ways to move children forward.
You're grouping children by interest sometimes.
You're welcome.
It was a pleasure.
Thank you for inviting me.
