I would never downplay the importance of the victims of a terrorist attack.
Um, nor do I I also understand that proportionality is a hard thing to discuss because as a 9-11 survivor, 9-11 has effectively been reduced to a unit of measurement at this point.
Even I see people on the left, I see liberals saying this all the time.
The pandemic was like a hundred nine-elevens, and I find that deeply insensitive.
As a way of talking about
uh just an abstract number of deaths versus the emotional impact versus the terror versus the symbolism of the moment.
And and what it did to us.
And I and I think
So I would never downplay that, and and I would never downplay the fear that Jewish Americans felt after October 7th.
Um, I will also say I'm gonna take a small point of contention with one thing which you said, which is that our emotional reaction was justified after 9-11.
I do think our fear was justified.
I also, as a 16-year-old, watched the world become bloodthirsty around me in a way that I don't think was justified.
And it felt like a lot of people were waiting for an excuse for their racism.
Uh if
excuse for their Islamophobia or just their general fear of an other to find a target.
And I think our government gave the American people who were somewhat willing and complicit in in wanting an enemy, uh, who hadn't had a clear enemy in a long time.
And I think that to that extent, I saw a lot of that happen with people who support the state of Israel.
