So how does clipping work exactly?
These clips are posted by normal looking accounts, but they're actually ads in secret.
And clipping's cheap, right?
Like it's cheaper than any form of advertising that's ever existed, you write?
You mentioned Justin Bieber, who is obviously a huge global superstar.
And as you write in your story, you'd kind of thought, well, why would Justin Bieber need to pay for clipping?
But according to the research that you've done, he actually did seem to be running some clipping campaigns for his Coachella performance.
Can you tell us what clipping Justin Bieber was apparently doing?
Right.
Like you have in your story, the announcement for one campaign read in all caps, this is so viral, go, go, go, go.
And, you know, Justin Bieber was listed as a client on one of these companies, Chaotic Good Projects, that runs these sort of clipping campaigns for artists.
How prevalent is this?
Like if Justin Bieber is doing this, is everyone doing this?
What are new acts doing?
Well, speaking of politics, I'm here in LA and we recently had the mayoral primaries, I guess, and Taylor Lorenz reported that Spencer Pratt was actually running two clipping campaigns to kind of try and juice his mayoral race.
I do just want to like reiterate the scale of this.
When you were in these clipping communities, you saw campaigns for Bad Bunny, Zayn Malik, Fleetwood Mac, Shania Twain, Luke Combs, Tiana Taylor, Dominic Fike, Kane Brown, your Google search nemesis, as well as shows like Netflix is the Night Agent, Apple TVs for All Mankind, and the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.
