I'm picking out shoes for my club season.
It's 2019.
I'm on East Bay, which for any basketball sports heads watching, they know this is a banner from Foot Locker.
It's been discontinued.
But this was like the site to get your basketball shoes on.
And so there was a...
ad or like a homepage landing page that had Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Jewel Lloyd, and Breonna Stewart.
And it had their headshots, their name, they're holding out the sneaker, and it said Sue Bird, Kyrie 4.

And I think I saw that ad and said, oh my god,
what is the message that this is saying?
You can be the very best in women's basketball.
You can be considered one of the top four pro players in the world, and not only will you still be wearing shoes named after somebody else, but you'll be using your airtime to promote them.
Wow.
And so when you look into the issue, not only is it this social implication, but there's a performance one as well because the female foot form differs from the male foot form in five key places.
And so when all those players from WNBA down to kindergarten are wearing men's, children's, unisex sneakers, they're more at risk for the knee, ankle, and leg injuries that are so common in women's basketball.
And so that one-two punch
was, it was just crazy.
I didn't know that, that there were differences in the female foot form.
That's one of the biggest things that we have to educate folks on.
