And many might just say this is just prohibitively expensive.
But the other factor is what fifteen year old girl is going to admit to her doctor necessarily that she's sexually active and please doctor can I have a pill so that I can have safer sex?
And there's strong evidence now that youth-only clinics really make a difference in keeping young HIV-positive Africans alive and thriving.
But does a pill like PrEP mean people then get blase about other forms of protection and prevention?
Will they ditch condoms, for example?
Many are concerned that this is a biomedical solution.
Big Pharma stands to make a lot of money out of a lot of girls taking PrEP.
Perhaps we should be focusing in on behavioural options for girls.

They were dying en masse, under their then president Tabo Mbeki, a prominent AIDS denialist.
