So you know I grew up in Tokoroa which has its own reputation but all in all for me it was an exceptional place to grow up like I tell everyone at home I've been in Hamilton for 20 years and I'm a ambassador through and through now for sure but

Tokoroa will always be home.

Ukaipō, you know, like it's where I even feel home when I go home now.

And saying that there are parts of it that were tough and the parts that were tough go hand in hand with the parts that were great as well.

So, you know, as an example, me and my sister,

We were brought up by our old lady.

Our old man took off when we were really young.

I was three, she was two.

And our mum is an amazing person, amazing human being.

But equally, she was doing the best that she could with the tools that she had available.

But how that landed for a young man, and especially a preteen and teenager,

they were just parts of it that made things pretty tough and I've been sort of chasing my tail a little bit since then because of some of that stuff.

It's just important to me that I honour my mum, especially, and that she gave me and my sister life, you know what I mean?

And I would never be able to repay her for what she's done for me and my sister.

But at the same time, there's an element there of things being a lot harder than they needed to be because of some of the things that were going on, so...

Yeah, and I think there was something that in that week or so where you'd ask me if I wanted to come on and there were so many things going through my head, how this could go.

The other part is probably acknowledging that I haven't been to hell and back as such.

I don't have a terrible background.

There's so many people out there with a tougher gig than what I had growing up.

But when I spoke to a few people close to me, they were sort of like, yeah, but
