And then start of December, the guy says, oh look, we'll give you work till Christmas paid.

I was like, yo, like mean.

And then just never left.

They ended up saying, I'll come back after Christmas.

I was just like,

went full noise and, yeah, managed to start my apprenticeship there.

Yeah, man, 100%.

So my foreman, his name's Kelly Leith, to this day...

one of the legends of my life.

He's from small taste, from Rotorua, started building when he was 15.

I think he saw a lot of himself in me, and so he really took me under his wing.

And he was my foreman, so he wasn't the guy who made the decisions about hiring and stuff, but I know he was a massive advocate for me.

Which, you know, if I hadn't had him there, where would that have landed?

You know, it's one of those knife-edge ones.

Yo, geez.

And he took me under his wing in a lot more ways than just teaching me building, you know.

Like, he really, you know, he'd invite me to his house on Fridays after work.

And his mates that were in their 40s and, like, engineers and stuff, I started getting exposed to a whole new world through Kelly.

And simple shit, man.
