There are still a few models and ranges where, yeah, the EV is a few thousand more expensive than the petrol or diesel.

But again, you have to see that in the round.

You have to see that against the potential savings you can make from running an EV.

Insurance on an EV is tricky at the moment.

They tend to be more expensive to insure because insurers are worried about battery replacements in the event of an accident.

So you do tend to pay a bit higher premiums.

But again, shop around.

There are plenty of insurers doing special packages for EV owners and you can make some useful savings there.

And if I can just take a second to look them up here.

The best selling EV in the country at the moment is the Volkswagen ID.4.

And that has a 77 kilowatt hour battery, right?

So it holds 77 kilowatt hours of potential energy that then turns the motor, which turns the wheels, blah, blah, blah.

Because ESB recently put up its prices for its public charges, that's the slow curbside ones and the big chunky fast ones that you see at filling stations.

If you were to buy one of those and run it exclusively from public charging, you would probably be paying more for your amount of mileage than you would putting petrol or diesel into a conventional car.

They are.

It actually comes back to what you just said.

If you are considering an EV, and you absolutely should be considering an EV, by the way, the cars themselves, not necessarily all of them, I mean, there are good cars and bad cars and mediocre cars, but a lot of EVs are really, really good to drive.

You know, you will not experience silence and refinement until you've driven an EV.
