But...

The big hurdle at the moment is that you have to have a driveway at home and somewhere to, as you said, put in a home charging point.

Because that's what makes running an EV so shockingly affordable.

If you can charge up overnight on cheap night rate electricity, you will be paying.

You will bump up your electricity bill, obviously.

But even then, the savings you will make against running a petrol or diesel car will massively outweigh that.

There are even chargers that automatically know when the rate is cheap and will switch on and charge the car.

So as I said, an equivalent VW Golf sized EV, for example, would be an MG4.

And we calculated that if you're on the best night rate and you're making the most possible use of it, then you can run it for a few hundred euros a year.

That's a big issue.

That's my personal issue, actually.

I live in a terraced house and charging EVs is a nightmare for me, even though I'm driving them all the time with my testing regime.

But so there does need to be a solution put in for that.

And so far, we haven't seen enough movement on that.

And in fact, we've seen movements in the other direction because we've seen Dublin City Council making people take down these arms that run cables out over the pavement in a safe manner so that people aren't tripping over them.

So we do need to see some movement on that.

It would be good to see some movement from the charging providers in terms of making public charging cheaper.

You can get cheaper rates by paying a subscription each month to each individual charging service.

I think really in terms of convincing people to make the switches is what we're trying to do at the moment.

Really, the charging companies should be fronting up and saying, here's the cheapest rate, just show up and charge.
