Once you get above 60, your insurance drops like a rock, actually.
It's obviously a lot, lot worse if you are young.
If you're under 19 and trying to get your own insurance...
About €3,900 seems to be the average.
And again, that's the average.
That means there's a lot higher being paid by some people.
So insurance is obviously still a very big cost.
Always has been in Ireland.
Motor tax has become much less of a cost.
If you're buying a new car, generally speaking now, unless you're going for something completely outrageous like a V8 engine Range Rover, you're going to be paying probably just less than €300 a year.
Whereas I can remember not very long ago paying about 800, 900 euros a year just for a fairly ordinary family car.
So that has improved a lot.
Fuel then is your next big expense.
If we take an average family car, and I still think of a Volkswagen Golf as an average family car, which probably shows you how far behind the times I am because everybody wants an SUV now.
But by the way, you're wrong.
Don't buy an SUV.
That's just adding more expense.
We'll get into that.
You're looking at around about 1400 euros a year in fuel.
You can save an awful lot by going electric.
