I have a thought occurring in the back of my mind, which I want to come back to.

But anyway, if you want to buy a new EV in July, and obviously July 1st, when the grant starts, is also the new registration day.

So it's 262 registrations.

And while that is never as big as January car sales, when we get the first new plate of the year, it is nonetheless a big kick for car sales each year.

So lots of people will be buying a new car and rolling up at the dealership on July 1st to pick it up because everyone wants their new plate on the first day, etc., etc.,

So if you are already planning to buy an EV and you have that older car to trade in, my advice would be go in with the expectation of not getting the grant.

And then if you do, it's a €5,000 bonus.

Great.

Either way, you've still got a substantial amount of money off the price of a new car because you've gotten your €3,500 grant.

And again, according to the price of the car, you're also getting a rebate of vehicle registration tax.

So you're already getting a cheaper car.

Right.

You were going to say about the thought occurring in your... I was going to say, this is a wider point.

This does seem to be working because a lot of the people who are coming in and looking for this car, they genuinely are trading in some very old cars.

In fact, there has even been cases where people have come in and bringing in cars to trade in that they got on the last scrappage scheme.

So that is definitely working.

But for the most part, people with a car that old probably aren't looking at buying new.
