That's come down dramatically in the last two or three years.
And so that's why you're seeing this sudden clutch of
of new compact electric cars priced at around sort of, you know, say 18 to 25,000 Euro.
It's just getting cheaper to make them.
And also we're going to see fairly shortly new legislation from the EU, which says if you're building an electric car,
that's of a certain size and a certain weight, you can sidestep some of the very expensive and potentially not necessary electronic safety aids that have pushed up the prices of a lot of new cars, again, in the last kind of five to 10 years.
And that's meant to give European manufacturers a leg up against encroaching Chinese opposition.
Electrics, electronics, who knows?
Yeah, I tend to find Hyundai and Kia tend to be very strong on this because they have been very sensible when it comes to retaining physical buttons in the cabin.
Yes, you get the whiz-bang screens and all the woos and ahs from that, but you still get proper buttons and switches for your climate control, for your electric windows.
And actually, credit to Volkswagen because across its brands, so Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi...
and Cupra and Seat as well, they're returning to more proper physical buttons.
Just been checking out the new Skoda Peak, which is their big expensive new seven-seater.
And yeah, when you get in, there's proper clicky buttons for turning up and down the cabin heat, and there's proper clicky buttons for all four electric windows on the driver's side.
So it
they're starting to see sense in this, I think.
And also they're starting to, it's not just, it's a combination of customer feedback.
It's a combination of whingy motor and journalists like me.
And it's also a combination of safety people.
Safety, big time.
