Uh for instance, uh emotionally sensitive kids are are more apt to become depressed.
Introverted kids are more apt to become depressed.
Why?
Because they don't see they don't become popular as easily, and popularity is
you know, is currency for adolescents.
You know, when they're adults, they're they're gonna get over that and they're not gonna need to be popular.
They're they're gonna have a few intimate friendships and relationships, they're gonna cherish their alone time and it's all gonna be fine.
But in adolescence, the currency of adolescence is is popularity.
And so it's a it's a tough road for some of these kids that are differently wired.
Sensitive kids, ADHD kids, uh spectrum uh kids, sensory integrative difficulty kids.
I mean these are these are populations that are at higher risk of depression.
And so, what's a parent to do?
And what my chapter says is: look, you cannot, as a parent, take responsibility for your kid's happiness.
What you can teach are resilience, what you can teach are happiness skills.
And so, what are happiness skills?
And so we can talk about that, but happiness skills has to do with knowing who you are.
And knowing what your needs are and finding healthy ways to get your own needs met and take responsibility for that.
And I think parents need to be able to communicate to their kids that, yeah, this is who you are.
Who you are is fabulous.
There's nothing wrong with who you are.
