One, I suppose it's a double bill question and it builds on from what you were saying about paperclip and journalistic distance and objectivity.
But why did you keep the focus so tight on the US?
And when you were writing a book like this, is it a challenge to keep tribalism, patriotism, sense of identity as an American out of the picture?

And the question about being an American and the patriotism, does that creep in or do you have to fight to keep it out, to make it into a game of heroes and villains?
Do you have to keep that at bay?
It's human instinct, right?
Well, yeah, what I mean is you write, you are writing as a journalist, but you're also writing as a storyteller.
And I see those as...
completely complementary disciplines, but they also have different, sometimes different audiences and different principles behind them, because one is to inform and one is to entertain.
And I could imagine when you're writing something like this, that the journalist part of your brain wants to look at it blankly and wants to, you know, bluntly present the facts.
And the storyteller, I could imagine a pressure from perhaps from within to make,
The US, the good guys in a situation, as opposed to, say, the Russians, where it comes from, who are very secretive and the North Koreans who are a terrifying kind of outlier.
Does that creep in and does does one undermine the other?
