quick introduction, a proper introduction rather for Ricardo, an associate professor of conservation science at the University of Oxford and also a tutorial fellow at Jesus College.
He's studied reptiles and bats.
in many places, including, of course, Portugal, Brazil, Madagascar, Costa Rica, China, Kenya, Malaysia and Finland.
He did his PhD connected with the universities of Lisbon and Helsinki.
And for his PhD, he addressed the effects of tropical forest fragmentation on bat communities.
And this is something that he continues to be very passionate about and tends to focus on, I believe, on his current research activities.
But we'll talk more about that shortly.
He's also a National Geographic Explorer as of 2020.
He's co-author of The Bats of the Amazon, the book that came out quite a few years ago now.
An excellent book.
We have actually spoken about that previously on Talking Bat and on Batability Club.
And as we were just saying a few moments ago, he was the keynote speaker or rather a keynote speaker at the National Bat Conference last year in Durham, if I remember correctly, 2025.

Of all of those countries you've been to, and you're not allowed to say Madeira or Portugal, do you have a particular favourite for reasons other than ecology?

That sounds like, yeah, if I ever have to organise a world tour for myself, OK, I'm going to put all of those on my list because they all sound fascinating.
I have actually been to Kenya before, so I have experienced Kenya and it was a lovely, lovely country, as you say.
