Thank you.
What got you into wildlife and birds and reptiles and bats?
I mean as a child in Madeira were you always interested in the natural world or did that come later?
Wow.
What was it like the first time you had to leave Madeira to go on foreign travels?
on.
Amazing.
I suppose now, when we kind of look back on all of that, you've developed into someone in the academic world.
with a huge interest in islands and natural history, it kind of all makes sense, doesn't it?
You know, it was never going to go any other direction, really, was it?
Although Brazil seems to be a little bit of a, you know, you can't call Brazil an island, but...
a book... Okay, let's go for it, yeah,
Excellent, absolutely loving that, absolutely loving that.
Let's talk a little bit about your research.
Ricardo's research, he's described in the past as a focus on how to restore biodiversity in the aftermath of habitat loss and fragmentation and how to manage human modified landscapes to retain biodiversity and maximise ecosystem services.
Now, the thing about Ricardo is if you Google him and you go on places like Google Scholar, ResearchGate, etc, you're going to find many papers that he's either authored or co-authored or been involved with at different levels.
Too many for us to mention here.
But what I'd like you to do Ricardo, could you maybe pull out
maybe some of the more important examples of studies that you've been involved with and why you feel or what you feel the benefits of those studies have been and I know that's maybe a little bit like asking you to choose your favourite bird or your favourite child or something I don't know but is there anything you could pull out from your activities as a researcher that you would like to discuss here?
