I move to approve the proposed ordinance setting tax rates on personal property section 20-22 vehicle license fees section 32-84 motor vehicle tax reduction section 2025 and personal property tax relief section 20-30 for tax year 2026 and amending Leesburg Town Code Appendix B fee schedule.
Well, it's not that the idea doesn't have merit, but it's come, I think, with too short notice.
So I think, along with a number of other discussions in this tax summit, this should become part of that discussion.
I'm still not certain where we make up the revenue lost at the 25% reduction.
Doing the quick math, honestly, on the admissions tax, that doesn't come anywhere close to replacing that.
We have a broader discussion for a variety of areas and fees and so on and how we raise revenue.
And I would certainly be willing to entertain that at that time.
But I think it's a little short notice for this evening.
Madam Mayor, may I make one further point?
I'm not trying to be argumentative.
It's just that...
The fact of the matter is all of our taxes could be argued as being regressive.
None of our taxes are particularly based on revenue, on income, I should say.
So whether it's real estate tax or personal property, we don't take a person's income into account.
