I think it's actually that that adaptability that means that they perhaps haven't declined to the same extent as so many of our other waders because they are better able to adapt to a human-altered landscape.

Uh, and I think that that is perhaps the secret to their relative success compared to some of our other waders.

Uh lovely that transports me, Ricky.

That is walking along the the Wicklow coast near my home uh during the during the summer and just hear that they're especially if they're nesting nearby.

They have these I know that um at Bernard Charlon's little turn colony at Cocould I'm if we do for uh under contract to the National Parks and Wildlife Service, uh we know that oyster catchers benefit down there as well from the fencing and uh it's amazing to watch just how protective they are.

Uh if anyone goes next night or

near their their eggs or their chicks, they swoop around, they do these calls to try and distract you, to try and drive you away, to try and show that

they're ruining your element of surprise.

So they're very feisty from that point of view.

They're very noisy and it's actually very loud.

If they're actually making that call from right beside you, it's almost ear splitting.

And and you know, if you do hear them making these alarm calls, get out of the area.

Just try to back away or move on as quickly as you can and and let them get on about their day.

But it's just it's the sound of the Irish coast to me.

It's it's it's beautiful.

A time when we've lost in so many areas things like the the cry of the

curlew, you don't hear that so much anymore.

You don't hear the that wonderful noises of breeding colonies a lap wing so much anymore, but you can still encounter this beautiful wild sound of the oyster catcher.

I I think that's it.

It's wild, isn't it?
