I said I like birds, I like squirrels.
Flying squirrels kind of like the best of both worlds.
You don't have to go all the way.

You can go to Finland and Estonia to see flying squirrels if you want.

You can.
And that European flying squirrel that you get in that area of Europe is one of the cutest animals imaginable.
They're absolutely adorable.
The ones in Java are a good bit larger and have big bushy tails.
And they have this flap of skin that connects their front legs to their back legs.
And it's not true flight.
It's more gliding.
So they climb up to a height.
They sort of fling themselves out of the tree.
And glide.
And they'll use sort of the...
that's a parachute to glide across, so it's amazing.
But also there's another amazing animal that I had a really good view of here today.
Looks like a squirrel, but it's actually called a tree shrew, a thing called Horsfield's tree shrew, which sounds like a very complicated name, but it's actually a very, very interesting animal.
It's this sort of long snouted, like a very small squirrel, but it's not related to them at all.
It's more related to shrews and hedgehogs and those insectivores.
