They can harness AI to strengthen the Chinese Communist Party by simply insisting that the models are trained to promote Xi Jinping thought and the algorithms are trained to identify anything that's critical of Xi Jinping thought.

So there's no incompatibility between communism, authoritarianism, and these kinds of AI-enabled platforms.

But we have a clear contradiction.

A free society which guarantees free speech and says that the federal government can't limit it, can't give free speech to AI-enabled bots.

We can't give large language models free speech.

We can't give chatbots free speech.

because they're going to be used to undermine the freedom of real human beings.

Nobody wants to admit that that's the real tension because the money that is being made by the hyperscalers, the network platforms, whatever you want to call big tech,

depends on this blurring.

It depends on you believing the outrageous thing you just read came from a human being and that that human being is a housewife in Iowa.

If you knew that it's just fake, then you probably would just screen it out.

And you ought to be able to say to X, hey, X, I don't want to see any non-human content, none of it.

Just take it out.

Can you do that?

Well, I think it's a mistake to see these as vote winning issues in themselves because voters' concerns are predominantly with bread and butter affordability issues.
