And in particular, I guess, um, I first had the pleasure to kind of travel to Norway uh and that part of the world in probably uh 96, 97.
And it was to look at a couple of technology businesses in the start of the kind of dot com boom.
But I guess as I reflected, I jumped on the plane and I kind of ate my kind of herrings for breakfast.
I kind of reflected on the fact that uh, you know, the Nordics was largely Norway in particular, I guess, was probably kind of most famous for kind of an agrarian economy, kind of like a hundred years before.
And certainly in the kind of run-up to that period for both kind of fishing and then obviously for oil in particular in the kind of 70s and 80s.
So, like, how did uh how did the region
move from that kind of economy to something that is now, I think, worldwide regarded as a huge kind of successful kind of tech story.
Can you give us your background on that?
Yeah, I uh I completely agree with uh with those points, Maretra.
I'm just gonna give a quick anecdote from uh from one of my first visits to Norway in a second about automation, but um I do just want to kind of log away that point about kind of competency, uh, and kind of come back to that because that's a uh a recurring theme in all my interactions with yourself and Wiston Mourn and uh the management team at at Visma and and several of your uh
Contemporary companies as well.
I guess the anecdote is that um I I remember in probably like the late 90s, maybe early 2000s, kind of like uh in the space of one week, kind of coming from the US, where you know most of the payments were still kind of cash and notes.
And you know, I was still being required to write a check in a restaurant and there was no kind of contactless.
And then doing an entire kind of two day business trip to uh to Visma, where um literally I didn't use any kind of form of kind of cash payment in the entire trip of two days, whether it was getting onto the train, whether it was through the airport, whether it was getting into the offices, whatever it may be, it was all kind of contactless at the time.
So um it's a very stark kind of personal uh example in the space of a couple of days of the difference between
US and the UK and what was happening in the Nordic region.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, whereas uh we're it's it's a major kind of blow for freedom in the UK that we've just moved off of filling in paper forms for our taxes.
It has given two, three years.
