And the hope is that all of these public amenities will encourage people to move to Detroit.
It's an interesting project because cities once focused on building office buildings in order to woo companies.
But since the pandemic, cities have, for the most part, struggled to fill their office buildings.
In this case, Bedrock is taking down two office buildings and putting up public space instead.
The theory goes that by creating kind of a quality sense of place,
including bars, restaurants, parks, concert venues, attractive overfront, you can draw those kind of young professionals and then you attract businesses who want to employ that talent, which creates new jobs and kind of brings this virtuous cycle.
It definitely is a big bet that this kind of development will, in fact, bring people from across the country.
The idea is that they want to turn Detroit into Nashville or Austin or Raleigh, where it kind of gains its reputation as an attractive place to live.
But it is a big bet.
still has big weaknesses that could get in the way of this initiative.
Its public school systems still kind of have a long way to go.
It really has little public transit to speak of.
And so there is some risk that even with a thriving new riverfront, Detroit may not be able to draw the kinds of residents and activity that it wants.

The simple answer is that just tariffs are a lot higher right now than they were in May.
In May, they said they were going to try to hold prices and work with suppliers that they don't have to pass tariff costs on to consumers.
But they talked today about how they'll be having some modest price increases in certain categories.
They said it won't be broad based, but that certain categories, particularly the ones that are impacted by tariffs, will see some modest price increases.
They did say that they're still accelerating their supply chain transition to avoid too much exposure to one country.
But yeah, this kind of admission that they were going to hike prices a little bit is definitely a notable shift from last quarter.
