It's the founder to founder experience.
Okay.
It's being in a cohort with 12, 20 others, of which three will be lifelong friends.
And you can pick up the phone at any time to them and celebrate, lament, whatever you're going through at that point in time.
So I think the most important experience is founder to founder experience and that's why you want to get into a quality accelerator because the quality accelerators attract the quality founders and then you're putting yourself in that bucket.
And I went through an accelerator as a founder.
It's called Rock Health in San Francisco and I knew that's why I was kind of well set up to help start me because I'd been a founder who'd gone through the journey, who'd gone through an accelerator.
I knew what was good and what wasn't about it.
I think the other thing is, I think that community is really helpful, but it's probably mostly helpful.
Like I remember I used to, every year I would take the cohorts to the Bug Crowd office, Bug Crowd's 2013 start mate company, Blackbird Portfolio Company.
And we used to sit in their kind of three floor office down on the water in San Francisco.
And they had this downstairs kind of wine cave area where we would take everyone.
And I would just remind people like,
Three years ago, Casey was sitting where you're sitting in the audience listening.
And three years later, he's in San Francisco having raised money with customers all around the world.
And I was like, it was just really powerful to show people a direct line from them to him and have him talk about that direct line and know it made possible more real.
And so...
I think a lot of people sometimes overestimate how far away people have in their mind what success looks like or people who are successful and they will misjudge how close they are to that.
And that's what was powerful about Startmate is there are now 20 or 30 companies that have gone through Startmate where you can say maybe this year, this cohort, I'm the one that goes on to have the massive impact and the hundreds of employees and to raise money and have customers all around the world.
And it just turns that from something that's rare into something that's normal and expected.
