It made no sense, and for ten solid minutes he effectively tore the room and his bag and his pockets apart in search of it.
It wasn't until Kenny's voice shouted to him from out in front of the cabin that he was stirred from his hunt.
Tim, you good to go?
Kenny beckoned through the screen window.
Uh, yeah, one sec.
Just trying to find my watch.
Tim hollered back.
Your watch?
Okay, whatever.
Just meet us at the fire pit when you're ready.
We should really get moving if we want a chance to get dinner before turning in, Kenny replied.
Tim continued searching through every square inch of the small square room, checking and rechecking and re-rechecking his bags, every conceivable pocket or lining, the sheets upon the bed, and even the bed itself.
And yet, for all his trouble, he found nothing.
After a few more minutes of searching, Kenny appeared in the doorway, urging him once more to get moving.
Dude, Kenny said, we really need to go, like now.
If not, we might end up hiking in the dark, and I don't think any of us are up to that particular challenge.
