They're wearing out.
They're being damaged by the exterior winds and rain, subject to snow, storms.
Maybe your fireplace is damaged, or it's not working properly, or it's just clogged.
You need to have a chimney sweep sweep it.
So if you have a wood-burning fireplace or a wood-burning stove, that would be where I would look first, because that could cause you the most trouble.
After that, I would say your furnace is another thing that could be inspected, especially with filters.
A filter does a lot of things for you that are positive.
It cleans the air, of course.
but it also increases the efficiency of the furnace.
So if you're running a furnace that has a dirty air filter, you're causing your furnace to work really hard, and that costs you money.
Water does so much damage in so many ways that if you can catch it early...
You're so much better off.
A roof leak could be happening in your home right now while we're doing this interview.
You wouldn't know it for a while if you're not paying attention.
It has to get through the shingle, has to go through the roofing, roof sheathing, down into the attic, starts to puddle, puddles on the underside of the ceiling drywall.
And before you know it, you have...
gallons of water that has to come down.
Now hopefully it leaks a little bit through the ceiling into the living areas where you can catch it.
But sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it all comes at once.
