Since the Taliban took back control in Afghanistan five years ago, it has banned girls from schools beyond the sixth grade and sought to erase women pretty much from public life.
The European Union hasn't recognised the Taliban government, but despite that, Belgium has just issued five single-day visas to a Taliban delegation to attend an EU meeting in Brussels on migration.
The Afghan Taliban government says a delegation has met European Union officials in Brussels to discuss the topic.
Our global affairs reporter Amrassan Etterajan is following the story.
Up until now, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, a long-time Iran hawk, has been largely absent from public discussions surrounding the peace deal between Washington and Tehran, instead leaving that role to the Vice President, J.D.
Vance.
But that looks to be changing.
Mr Rubio is now in the Middle East for a series of high-stakes meetings, during which he will speak to Arab Gulf allies from the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Our correspondent Daniel Bush is in Abu Dhabi and told me why the trip mattered.
It is going to be very difficult, isn't it, for America to give reassurances that it can back up?
Because as you were saying, these Gulf allies were attacked considerably in the opening days and weeks of the war.
