So this is a good pivot to the notion of reverse dominance hierarchy.

gets too big for their britches, they will take him down a peg because he's gotten too powerful.
They're not chucking hand grenades at the guy.
They're just ridiculing him, shaming him, ostracizing him.
But for many periods of human history, having a sort of domineering alpha mindset could be a death sentence.
