You think you are, but it's really it's amazing that 10,000 years ago they had that figured out.
If you think about it, it's pretty crazy.
I mean, the other stuff, it sounds nuts today, but you just kind of file it under people trying to understand things and doing a bad job of it.
But the brain trauma treatment is wildly accurate.
They don't have the right tools, they don't have antiseptics, they don't have anesthesia, but
They make it work and they save lives doing this.
I mean, if you go back far enough, they probably saved one of your ancestors doing this.
Yeah, and surgery in general killed more people than it saved until around the turn of the twentieth century.
It's an absolute miracle that we live in an age where more people survive surgery than die of it.
It's verifiably true that more people died of surgery than lived up until the late nineteenth, early twentieth century.
That's when surgery becomes a net lifesaver rather than just a Hail Mary when you don't have
any other options and the Hail Marys saves some lives, but without germ theory, antiseptics, long lasting anesthesia, antibiotics, there's only so much you can do.
So trepanation
Today, when it's done as a legitimate surgery, it is called a craniotomy.
