It was not planning my life properly.
The question why is property so expensive is funny to me in hindsight now because had I not been so stupid in my 20s, I would have entered the market at a much better time and more.
Property is expensive when you reach your 30s and 40s if you don't own your home because somehow you've got to work out how you're going to pay off a mortgage in 30 years.
And then the challenge becomes, can I rely on equity?
Can I rely on capital growth?
What can I do to get around to entering the market so late?
So it's not about the property being expensive, it's about the period of time that you've got to work with.
And millennials, to be honest with you, do face a challenge.
I don't want to be saying, hey, it's so easy.
We should have all just entered the market when we were 22.
Everything would be fine.
That's not the case at all.
We've got HECS debt.
We've got the cost of living.
We genuinely do have a lot of challenges.
The thing that I say to a lot of people when they say to me, I don't need a house.
I'm just going to rent.
I say, that's cool.
What are you going to do when you're 79 and your landlord kicks you out of your property?
This is really, really stressful.
