My memory is that it was a red car.

Neighbours had a red car of a similar shape at the time so I presumed it was them stopping to offer me a lift home but as I walked closer to the car two men got out of the two front seats and started running at me.

I knew immediately I was in trouble.

As I said I was faced strong and fast at the time so I ran for my life.

I had no idea who these men were but I knew I had to get away.

I was terrified in that moment.

I ran back to my friend's house, jumped a large garden wall to get in off of the road.

I could hear their footsteps running behind me.

I just wanted to escape.

I ran in the front door of my friend's house and locked it behind me.

I got an awful fright at the time.

After a while my friend's brother dropped me home.

Two men were nowhere to be seen.

I told my parents what had happened and as far as I know my father reported what happened to me to the local Garda.

At the time those men stopped their car and ran after me I was aware Elizabeth Plunkett was missing as it was a big story in the news.

But it was only after the second girl was murdered in Mayo, Mary Duffy and Elizabeth's body was recovered that these two men were arrested and the story was all over the news.

It was only then when the pictures of them appeared in the newspapers and on television and reports that they had been staying with Cliff Outram and Feathered for a while that I pieced together who exactly it was that had stopped the car and ran after me.

It was the same two men, John Shaw and Geoffrey Evans.

It was only then I realised how lucky I was.

It's not something I ever talk about now, nor do I dwell on it, but I do know I was very fortunate to be able to run away.
