You know, who am I fooling?
You know, just because I want something that looks like drink, alcoholic drink, tastes like it, is sort of non-alcoholic, it's still causing me a problem on my kind of mindset.
I suppose I want to sit around a dinner table and enjoy the conversation and enjoy seeing people having their glass of wine and having a nice time.
Do I miss it?
I honestly and part of recovery for me and part of my life strategy is gratitude.
to be grateful for so many good things in my life that I didn't have before, even driving up today to appreciate the landscape, the flowers, the trouble people go to with their gardens, all of that.
So that kind of, for me, takes away that desire to have a drink because I know deep down, and I never tire of that message, and going back to your comment about younger people saying,
drink can be your best friend or it can destroy, and it does destroy individuals and families.
And that does not mean you can't have a drink, not at all.
I'm merely trying to encourage a more...
a more kind of sensible approach to drinking so that if I meet my friends in town, in Donegal town tomorrow, and they know we're all going to a wedding at the end of the month, I don't want the first sentence to be, ah, we'll have a good old piss up at the wedding.
You know, it's that damn kind of thing that drink is the beginning, the middle, the end of all our living, all our socialising, all our partying.
And that's why if I can,
Put a message out there.
Enjoy a drink, by all means.
You don't need to get plastered.
I mean, when you're having your daughter's wedding or your son's wedding, there is no necessity to have a full free bar for two hours before the darn meal starts.
Why?
Why would you do that?
You know, you're providing wine with a meal which is gorgeous.
